Master¡¯s Degree Course Course Announcement for 2005 Fall Semester
To
preserve and enhance nuclear knowledge for
RCA Member States
To develop and
train the core research resources from R&D
institutions, universities, etc. in nuclear
energy and quantum engineering
2. Overview
The RCA-KAIST Master Degree
Course is intended to educate and train the students of
leadership caliber from the RCA Member States with the
aim to develop them into elite leaders in nuclear energy
and quantum engineering in their countries, working in
universities, government supported R&D institutions,
or government funded enterprises, etc.
The Course is ultimately envisioned to promote international
cooperation and coordination in nuclear arena among RCA
Member States. Principally, it is planned to select 1-2
persons from each Member States so that the size of the
whole student group for this particular course does not
exceed 15 persons per year.
This Course has been implemented since March 2003 and
14 students in total have enrolled up to now.
For graduation, students must accomplish 36 credit units
as follows.

First semester
(4 months; Sep. to Dec. 2005): 15 credit units (=
5 courses)

Interim Semester
(2 months; Jan. 2005 to Feb. 2006): 6 credit units
of
individual
study with the advisor

Second semester (4
months; Mar. 2006 to Jun. 2006): 15 credit units
(= 5 courses)

Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) - Ranked overall
1st place among the science and technology academic institutions
in all of Asia
(including
Australia) for two successive years in 1999 and 2000 according
to Asiaweek.

Department
of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering (DNQE) - The leading
department in the field of nuclear and quantum engineering
in Korea
Tuition (Approx. USD 5,000 for one academic year): to
be covered by the host institution.
A round-trip, economy-class air fare (not to exceed nominal
fares: to and from the nearest airport
of the originating country and Korea): to
be reimbursed by the host institution.
Course application fee (USD 60): to be covered by the
host institution.
Living expenses: 500,000 Korean Won/month (approx. USD
440/month) for one year depending
on the course.
¡Þ NOTE :
- On-campus housing can be arranged
but the cost must be borne individually. A shared room
at KAIST currently
costs about 390,000 Korean Won/semester (=6 months), approximately
USD 325 /semester
(=6 months).
- The meals in the Campus cafeteria
cost around 2500 ~ 3000 Korean Won per meal
(2.1 ~ 2.7
USD/meal).
- KAIST does not provide housing
for married MS students¡¯ family and the married students,
who want to
bring his/her family, must bear that the rental apartment
near KAIST is quite
expensive.
- Medical insurance and student
medi-care fees: approximately 220,000 Korean Won/semester
(6 months),
approx USD 190/semester (6 months), also to be borne individually.
5. Qualifications
for Application and Admission
Applicants
must: - have graduated
from a 4-year academic institution or equivalent by
the time they are enrolled
in the programme
(Bachelor of Arts degree)
- be recommended by the National
RCA Representative of his/her country
- meet the KAIST admissions
criteria
- have the English test score
higher than the following criteria except for those
applicants from
English speaking countries.
TOEFL PBT 510, TOEFL
CBT 180, TOEIC 605, or TEPS 507
(2005 applicants
only. It will be increased continuously)
6. How to Apply
The National RCA Representatives
are requested to send the names and organization/institution
of the applicants to RCARO. Applicants
should send their application package directly to the

1 copy from each) from the educational
institute attended
5. Academic
transcripts & graduation certificates from all the
colleges attended
6. TOEFL
score record (for students from non-English speaking
countries)- The test taken more
than 2 years prior to application for admission will
not be considered..
7. Optional:
Any material demonstrating applicant's scholastic ability
NOTE
- All documents stated
above must be official and original.
The offer of admission may be revoked if a candidate's
submitted documents are found to be false and
counterfeit. Also faxes and photocopies are not
considered as the valid application documents.
However photocopies of transcript with new fresh
valid stamp are considered as original.
- All documents should be in English and if application
documents including academic transcript are in
a language other than English, they should be
translated into English with the authorization
of a public notary in your country.
- We shall only accept your application documents
that arrive at KAIST by the deadline (20 April
2005) corresponding to your expected admission
schedule. We do not take any responsibility for
a failure in delivery of application documents
by the deadline.
- Submission of English test score is
exempt for applicants from RCA Member States where
the official language is considered as English
by KAIST are Australia, India, New Zealand, the
Philippines, and Singapore.
- All applicants from other RCA Member
States such as Bangladeshi, China, Indonesia,
Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan,
Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam, must submit
the official test score of TOEFL(PBT or CBT),
TOEIC, TEPS or etc.

Announcement of the Course to all RCA Member States (National

the RCA
Regional Office.
- Applicants to the
Course must be recommended by National RCA Representative
of each
Member
State. (The National RCA Representatives are requested

20 April 2005 -
All documents must be received by the Course Coordinator
by this date.
- Course Coordinator
reviews the documents and submits them to the administration
team
of
KAIST if they are complete.
June 2005 -
Applications will be evaluated by the Academic Committee
of KAIST.
- Administration
team will notify the admission results to the applicants
and the Course
Coordinator
in mid-June.
- The
Course Coordinator and the Course Assistant will contact
admitted applicants
for
further instruction by e-mail.
- Students should
prepare Visa and the round-trip air-line ticket. (Arriving
date : 24~28 August,
Leaving
date : open) 24~28 August 2005 -
Campus dormitories (2 persons per room) will be allocated
to the accepted applicants before
their
arrival.
- Selected students
arrive at KAIST, Daejeon, Korea and settle at the dormitory
with a guide by
the
Course Assistant.

Students are advised to bring 3 passport-size photographs
in order to have photo ID and
other necessary official documents made without delay.

Students also must submit the receipts of the air fare
and the local transportation inside
Korea from Incheon airport to KAIST for reimbursement.

Students are advise to bring warm clothes for winter
season, November to February in Korea.
