Activity 2: Assessment of Toxic Element in the Tsunami Sediment
Analysis report with recommendations to be implemented by countries selected, of toxic elements in sediment in tsunami affected areas using nuclear analytical techniques completed

Target:
- Analysis and evaluation at least five core samples in shallow coastal zone in Indonesia and Thailand completed.
- Production of final data on toxic elements completed and published.
- The proposed recommendations finalized and shared with the member countries at final national and regional meetings..

Activity 3: Assessment of water and soil
Analysis report with recommendations to be implemented by countries selected, of contamination of surface and ground water, and agricultural land due to sediment deposition and seawater infusion caused by tsunami using nuclear analytical techniques completed

Target:
- Analysis and evaluation at least five soil samples in shallow coastal zone completed at selected sites in India and Sri Lanka.
- Production of final data on toxic elements in the surface, groundwater and agriculture land completed and published.
- The proposed recommendations finalized and with the member countries shared at national and regional meetings

Activity 5: Capability Building
Strengthened capacity for scientists and technicians on reliable assessment works strengthened through participation of assessment process and regional training workshop

Target:
- Regional Training workshop held and trained 10 trainees from severely Tsunami-affected countries e.g. Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and Thailand

Activity 6:Increased use of NAT by the end-users
The major stakeholders’ awareness of the advantage for using nuclear analytical techniques (NATs) enhanced among the participating countries

Target:
- NATs presented at the relevant regional environmental meetings organized by international organizations and IAEA.
- 25% of participating countries adopted at least one NATs as the analytical techniques for national marine environmental monitoring and emergency response programmes.

Activity 7: Input to National Environment Policy-Making
Action Plans to implement the proposed recommendations developed in two or three countries for reducing vulnerability to tsunami and other huge natural disasters
