Activity 2: Assessment of Toxic Element in the Tsunami Sediment
Analysis report with recommendations to be implemented by countries selected, of toxic elements in sediment in tsunami affected areas using nuclear analytical techniques completed

Target:
- Analysis and evaluation of maximum five core samples at low-tide in Indonesia and Thailand completed.
- Second year progress report completed and shared with the member countries at national and regional meetings

Activity 3: Assessment of water and soil
Analysis report with recommendations to be implemented by countries selected, of contamination of surface and ground water, and agricultural land due to sediment deposition and seawater infusion caused by tsunami using nuclear analytical techniques completed

Target:
- Analysis and evaluation completed at selected sites in India and Sri Lanka, mainly focusing on assessing contamination in soil/water and identification the source of contamination.
- Second year progress report completed and shared with the member countries at national and regional meetings

Activity 5: Capability Building
Strengthened capacity for scientists and technicians on reliable assessment works strengthened through participation of assessment process and regional training workshop

Target:
- Five local scientists and technicians in each countries from Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Australia had on-the-job training through participating in assessment process

Activity 6:Increased use of NAT by the end-users
The major stakeholders’ awareness of the advantage for using nuclear analytical techniques(NATs) enhanced among the participating countries

Target:
- The information on the advantage on NATs finalized and shared with the member countries.
- NATs presented at the relevant regional environmental meetings e.g. PEMSEA and other regional programmes organized by IAEA.
