Easy and quick access to IAEA’s nuclear-related information is now also practically available through INIS2 (www.inis2.com) site that was recently opened at KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). The KAERI-based INIS2, a twin sister of IAEA-based INIS, offers a better internet server environment thus enables the users to access more conveniently and efficiently the INIS (International Nuclear Information System) database. It is noted that access to INIS database from Asia and the Pacific region has been experiencing difficulties due to heavy-load of hits to IAEA-based INIS site. The INIS2 is a regional portal site of IAEA/INIS that is being operated independently of IAEA-based site.
The IAEA-based INIS database has been operating since 1970 and now covers more than 2.3 million technical papers, reports and books pertaining not only to nuclear research and development but also generic science and technology. In addition to the already available information, INIS can also accommodate more than eighty thousands new information annually produced throughout the world. INIS is recognized as a thriving treasure-island of nuclear-related information and the number of users is ever-increasing.

The full INIS DB launched on the internet, under modern web-based user-friendly retrieval software, since 1998. However, because of the heavy traffic in the INIS information network, a lot of users face difficulties to retrieve necessary information in a timely manner. Korea’s advanced information and communication technology helps solving this limitation. It is particularly so for most of Asian users who are geographically afar from the Vienna-based site. The INIS2 was officially opened on 17 June 2004. INIS2 website is linked with RCARO website.
