IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Serological Techniques for FMD Diagnosis and Control in Pakchong, Thailand in 11-22 October 2004. The purpose of the course is to provide the participants with the information on theoretical and practical aspects of the major serological assays for the detection of FMD viruses and antibodies against this virus.

The course will cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of ELISA for: identification and typing of FMD viruses, assessment of antibodies against the non-structural proteins of FMD (differentiating infected and vaccinated livestock), measurement of overall antibodies against FMD and quality control aspects of assays.

The participants will be trained in theoretical and practical aspects of the most important assays for FMD to allow better understanding of the principles and practical aspects of the use of kits. This will allow better planning for the use of kits in control programmes and improve the quality control aspects of routine testing.
For more information, please write to local course director Dr Wilai Linshongsubongkoch (Director, Regional Reference Laboratory for FMD in South East Asia, Dep’t of Livestock Development) at wilaifmd@loxinfo.co.th
