The RCA Regional Office participated in the 13th Annual Meeting of the ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy (ASEANTOM), held in Manila, the Philippines, from 11 to 13 August 2026. The meeting served as a key platform for cooperation among ASEAN nuclear regulatory authorities and international partners, addressing emergency preparedness and response, radiation monitoring, nuclear safety and security, regulatory governance, and regional cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

RCARO contributed as a dialogue partner and delivered a presentation under Agenda Item 3.4 on the progress of the partnership project, “Enhancing Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities in the ASEAN Region.” The presentation outlined the project’s development across its three phases and highlighted its objective of strengthening the technical capabilities of ASEAN Member States in radiation monitoring and dose assessment.

The project, launched in 2020 with the participation of all 10 ASEAN Member States, has produced an EPR guideline, virtual manuals, handbooks, e-learning courses, webinars, and practical training programmes. RCARO highlighted recent achievements, including the 2025 Regional Training Course in Korea, attended by 15 participants from all 10 ASEAN Member States; support for four ASEAN experts to participate in the 2025 ARADOS Annual Meeting; and a June 2026 expert mission to Thailand’s Office of Atoms for Peace, involving Korean specialists from KIRAMS, KAERI, and KRISS. RCARO also introduced the upcoming Regional Training Course on lab-based practical exercises in radiation detection and dosimetry, scheduled to be held in Korea from 2 to 6 November 2026.
